What to expect
MACHINE PROBLEM SOLVING
This class will be our first week and we will go through all the tips you need to make sure your machine is running smoothly for the next 6 weeks.
If you’ve got any issues you’ve been having with your machine please note them down and bring them to class.
You should also bring your sewing kits with any tools that came with your machine.
HEMMING
Pants double folded hem
Suit pants invisible stitch
Jeans
Shirts; hem and sleeves
Bring in any pants you wish to make shorter. I would recommend bringing in multiple types of pants so that you’ve got something to work on throughout the whole class.
Also bring in a shirt that you would like to make the length and arms shorter.
MENDING
Jeans or pants that have blown out
Fixing different types of rips
Sewing on patches
Bring any garments you have that have ripped and you want to mend them.
Bring any patches or fabric you wish to patch onto clothing too.
We will go through both visible and invisible mending techniques.
TAKING PANTS IN
Bring in a pair of pants that you want to make smaller. We will go through how to take in pants with a waistband, but if your pants don’t have a waistband that’s okay you will just skip that step.
Jeans are tricky to navigate because they’re very thick so it’s easier to learn on something thinner. Dickies or suit pants are perfect for this class.
BUTTONS AND ZIPS
Button holes; by hand and with machine
Sewing on a button
Zips; invisible, standard, jacket
If you’re interested in learning how to install an invisible zipper, you’ll need to make sure your machine has an invisible zipper foot.
PROJECT PROBLEM SOLVING
Bring your own projects to class to share and problem solve together.
As this will be the last class of the course you’ll realise you’ve got most of the skills and just need some help wading through.
